Alice Dansey-Wright – Legitimate Likenesses

Review Gallery
The American Museum in Britain is a unique institution established in the 1960s which showcases American decorative art and is the only one of it's kind outside of the U.S. In March 2014 Illustrator Alice Dansey-Wright conducted a research trip to the museum with the aim of developing new work based on their collections.
Alice set out to explore the connections between illustration and folk art as well as customisation and individuality in a (digital) age of mass production. Above all however, she wanted to conduct first-hand research on location at a place where she could spend time sketching and learning more about objects and artefacts that inspire her.
Influenced by the folk-art, Renaissance map and quilt collections at the Museum, Alice has created a body of new work for this exhibition including textile designs, works on paper and hand-painted ceramics.
