Foldability is a multi-disciplinary design studio run by Kyla McCallum who works with origami to create products, packaging and bespoke pieces for interiors and events. For this exhibition she has produced a lighting installation, showcasing a selection of designs from her Sonobe Collection. Each light is made from a number of hand-folded modules using Naturalis paper from GF Smith. The collection presents an exploration into origami and gives a sense of the infinite number of shapes that can be created.
In 2012 Kyla graduated with a Master of European Design from the Glasgow School of Art. She first designed the Sonobe Collection in 2009 after winning the Forth Valley Craft Makers Award which allowed her to develop the collection in Bangalore, India. Kyla now runs Foldability from her East London studio, working for clients in Scotland, England and Germany.
