‘Exploring objects from his collection, site visits and stories I feel like I have achieved a connection with a man that I have never met’ Kevin Andrew Morris, 2015.
Based around Morris’s own family heritage and influenced by traditional ceramics; the works produced for ‘A Northern Soul’ concerns his grandfather who was a fishing ghillie in Aberdeenshire Scotland.
By exploring objects from his grandfather’s collection, undertaking site visits and collating stories Morris feels like he has have achieved a connection with a man that he has never met whilst at the same time furthering an understanding of his own practice which centres on making work that engages with craft, material and place. Allowing conversations to happen between found objects out with their original environment and fabricated ceramic pieces ideas of survival through craft as well as the fragilely of the natural and human world are explored.
