We decided to catch up with the guys hosting the Cogs & Wheels workshop to find out more about what you can expect:
What is it you are involved in?
I have been making and experimenting with wooden bikes for the past few years. Based on an original road bike design by Robert Battersby I have been developing ways of making other types of bicycle such as cargo bikes using similar techniques. The bikes I make are mostly made from scrap wood and recycled bike parts. I have also been teaching some people how to make the bikes where they get a chance to learn how to use basic hand tools and wood work techniques. It is a fun way to engage with people about different ideas on sustainability.
What is the purpose of the project?
The wooden bike project aims to develop prototype bicycles which can be made using only the most basic hand tools and craftsmanship.
What is the purpose of developing these prototypes?
To reduce dependence on mass produced imported products, the project intends to create locally produced bicycles from recycled materials and components.
What can people expect from your workshop at the Late?
Glasgow-based visual artist Hannah Brackston will lead the workshop on reusing scrap bike parts and other salvaged materials to make useful objects and ornaments. We will bring examples of pre-made items and be on hand throughout the evening to provide practical support.
What are you hoping people will take from the workshop?
We hope to empower people with new skills and the experience of building something for themselves.

Our Lighthouse Late in association with The List is on Friday 9th October. We will have live music from The Spook School, Apache Darling, Supermoon and headlining are FOUND. The theme is Berlin.
