Maggie’s Student Design Competition 07 Jul 2014 – 31 Aug
Level 4 - Circulation Space

The Design Competition challenges Standard Grade and Higher pupils to create a new Maggie’s Cancer Centre. Sitting and working alongside NHS cancer hospitals, the Maggie’s Centres provide the emotional, practical and social support that people with cancer need. They are warm, friendly, informal places, full of light and open space. The Centres provide a bridge from the stress of dealing with hospitals, appointments and treatment.

The competition aims to inspire students to learn more about both Maggie’s and architecture.  By bringing architecture to the classroom, the competition encourages students to develop research and presentation skills, and inspires pupils who have an interest in design.

The entries were judged by architect Richard Murphy and Maggie’s patron Kirsty Wark. The winner, Gerry Reid, was awarded a week-long work experience placement with Richard Murphy Architects.
