The Lighthouse wins Best Cultural Venue 2019 20 Jun 2019

The winners of The Glasgow Awards 2019 have been revealed following the memorable celebration that took place on Monday June 17, at Marriott Hotel in Glasgow.

The Glasgow Awards 2019 is the city’s celebration of the people and institutions that make Glasgow a special place to visit or call home; from restaurants, bars and hotels to festivals and venues that enhance the city’s cultural landscape.

The elegant event was hosted by Scottish Radio personality, Gina McKie. She presented 31 awards to the deserving winners acknowledging them for their hard work and determination to making Glasgow the incredible city we all love.

The winners who are chosen by the people of Glasgow, are a true reflection of the success, generosity and ethos; three qualities that set them apart from the others and make our lives in Glasgow brighter.

The awards provided a platform to thank those who constantly deliver memorable experiences to Glaswegians and visitors alike and make the city known worldwide for its warm hospitality.

The competition was fierce but The Lighthouse won the Best Cultural Venue category and took the trophy home.

Theresa Searle, Economic Development Manager at The Lighthouse said: "We are delighted to win Best Cultural Venue for 2019 at the Glasgow Awards.

"Our venue attracts visitors of all ages from locals to tourists worldwide. We are very proud of our Charles Rennie Mackintosh Heritage, especially since The Lighthouse was the first public commission completed by Mackintosh right here in the heart of Glasgow.

"We are also pleased to support the Creative Industry, in particular the Architecture and Design community of Glasgow and across Scotland through our exhibitions and series of activities.

"The team all work very hard and it is their dedication and commitment that makes The Lighthouse a wonderful place for visitors, customers, exhibitors and tenants. We are very proud to have won this award and will display the trophy proudly in our office."

Marisa Ruettimann, Campaign Executive of The Glasgow Awards 2019, said:”The Glasgow Awards 2019 have acknowledged some incredible individuals who make a positive difference to the local community.

“It was great to meet with inspiring people who are real altruists, love Glasgow and go above and beyond the call of duty to advance the city’s cultural, social and economic scene.

“We would like to congratulate all finalists and winners for their amazing achievements.”
