This annual exhibition and student awards, run in collaboration with the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS), was a rare opportunity for the public and profession to see the best student work from Scotland’s six schools of architecture.

These high profile awards provided an excellent chance for the public and profession to view the standard of student work and ideas from Scotland’s most talented, emerging young architects. SIX is part of ACCESS to Architecture, a programme of events and activities informed by Scotland’s Policy on Architecture.

The SIX Student Awards are comprised of five awards:

  • The RIAS Silver Medal for Best Fifth Year Student (£1,200 prize)
  • The Lighthouse Award for Best Third Year Student (£800 prize)
  • Urban Design Award open to students and groups from any year (£1,000 prize)
  • The Sust. Award open to all students (£500 prize)
  • The RIAS Drawing Award open to all students (£1,000 prize).

Highly Commended - Emma Bush, University of Edinburgh   

The Lighthouse Award
Winner - Fiona MacDonald, University of Edinburgh
Highly Commended - Jonathan Black, Glasgow School of Art
Highly Commended - Michael Fedak, Glasgow School of Art   
Commended - Sara Oxley, University of Edinburgh

Urban Design Award
Winner - Sean Joyce, Glasgow School of Art
Highly Commended - Elidh Henderson, Andrew McEwan, Martin Tarnawski, Strathclyde University

RIAS Drawing Award
Winner - Arman Bahram, Edinburgh College of Art
Commended - Charlotte Hodges, Edinburgh College of Art

Sust. Award
Winner - James Tait, Strathclyde University
Highly Commended - Elidh Henderson, Andrew McEwan, Martin Tarnawski, Strathclyde University

The judges for this year’s awards were:
