Join us to celebrate the winners of the Achievement Award and SIX Student Awards and an aligned lecture by Francine Houben, architect/director of Mecanoo architecten.
The Achievement Award recognises the contributions made to architecture and the built environment by a wide range of professionals, and will be given to enable realisation of a specific project. The SIX Awards are an annual exhibition and student awards run in collaboration with the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland
This Achievement Award and SIX Student Awards are part of ACCESS to Architecture. Developed and managed by The Lighthouse, Scotland’s National Centre for Architecture, Design and the City. ACCESS to Architecture is a national campaign informed by key aims and aspirations of the Scottish Government’s Policy on Architecture.

Francine Houben, architect/director of Mecanoo architecten in Delft, The Netherlands, is one of Europe’s most active architects. She lectures all over the world and takes part as a jury member in many prestigious competitions.
In her designs innovation and sustainability play an important role. She combines architecture, urban planning and landscaping in an unorthodox way.
Examples are the designs for the Business Innovation Centre FiftyTwoDegrees in Nijmegen, the Library Technical University of Delft, Municipal Offices and Station in Delft, the National Performing Arts Centre in Kaohsiung(shown above), Taiwan en the National Historical Museum in Arnhem. With her international staff of more then 80 Francine Houben is working on projects in The Netherlands, Spain, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia, U.K., Poland, Albania, Italy, Japan, Denmark, Finland, Germany and Switzerland. Since 2000 Francine Houben is professor in Architecture and Aesthetics of Mobility at the Delft University of Technology.
In 2007 she was visiting professor at Harvard University in Cambridge, U.S.A. She received numerous awards and recognitions such as honorary fellowships of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and the American Institute of Architects in 2007. In 2008 she was awarded the Veuve Clicquot Business Woman of the Year Award.
