Wasps Artists’ Studios has supported the careers of thousands of visual artists in the last 30 years by providing affordable workspace at a network of buildings across Scotland. During this time we’ve learned a thing or two about artists’ studios and believe that organisations like ours are successful because, above all, artists don’t want to work in isolation – they want a place to work in where they can mix with other artists, share inspiring ideas, or simply shoot the breeze over a cup of tea.
 
Recently we’ve been thinking about the type of workspace available for creative industries. Would creative businesses like to work in the city centre alongside like-minded folk, from designers and architects to visual artists and dance companies? Is there a gap in the market for workspaces pitched somewhere between artists’ studios and higher end serviced offices?
 
Our gut feeling is yes and we are planning to set up a new business venture extending Wasps’ property management service to support creative industries alongside artists and arts organisations.  
 
Naturally, we think this is a wonderful idea. However, we would like to hear the views of creative businesses in Glasgow to see if this concept is viable and to test whether there is enough demand for this new business venture. We have already identified some 26,000 square feet of potential workspace within two buildings in the Merchant City: the Grade A former Victorian fish market, the Briggait, and a property on King Street.  
 
So if this sounds appealing and you are interested in either starting up a new business or relocating your existing business to the Merchant City please complete this questionnaire. Your feedback in the coming weeks will directly influence how we develop this new activity.
